Hello Forum,

Newbie here. I have a 1971 K10 with A SBC carbureted 350. I recently replaced the distributor with a MSD 8360, blaster 2 coil, new wires and plugs. I finally got timing adjusted to 12 degrees BTDC. On initial starts it seems like it’s misfiring for the first 20 seconds or so until I’m able to flutter the gas pedal as it starts to up normal after that. Sometime it will just stall when I put into gear. I have order some hotter AC delco plugs and will install this weekend. I have checked for any vacuum leaks. I did see an issue with e check valve on the brake booster but I’m still seeing the issue. Any ideas why it misfire on initial startup?

Thanks,
Matt

Did it misfire with the old distributor?

Misadjusted choke set too rich or too lean, one possibility.

No misfire with the old dist. I haven’t mess with the carb at all. I did initially set the timing wrong when I dropped in the new dist. I was set at zero degree at TDC but I ended up setting it to 12degree BTDC. I’m wondering if I may have fouled a plug or am running wrong plug. Ac delco CR43TS. I just picked up R45TS plugs and will try those and inspect the old plugs.

Sounds like the carb needs tweaked a bit like shepherd said, a little air fuel tweaking .

Checked timing again and all connections. Decided to look at the quadrajet carb and noticed the prev owner maybe added a zip tie keeping the chock open for some reason. I cut it out and adjusted the air/fuel screws and idle. I’m gonna run it this way for awhile and see how things go.
