Hello everyone,

normally, I am in the 1954 part of the forums, but now I hope you guys can help me out on this one.

I do run a 1955 3 speed transmission on my 54 inline 6 (for open driveshaft reasons).

Now I am overhauling the transmission, and there is a question I am not sure about and also the shop manual does not say anything about that question.

The rear bearing of the output shaft included in all the overhaul kits seems to be just a tiny bit thigter than the original ones and therefore has to be pressed onto the output shaft.
The shop manual only says to set the endplay of the bearing to 0,004" by using thiner or thicker snap rings.

But the shop manual does not say how thight the bearing (2) has to sit against the thrust washer (5) and the second speed gear (1). Should it sit thight or even have some axial play? If it does, how much should the axial play be?

Hope you guys can help me out on this one.
Thanks in advance for your efforts,
regards from Europe
Stefan
