After driving this car about 10 miles I checked the trans filter (th350). It was full but mud brown.Pulled the pan and things got worse. Looked like sand at the bottom. Trans seemed to work ok. Changed filter and 4 qts oil. Drove approx 5 miles check fluid mud brown again. Pulled pan had a little crap in bottom but still mud brown. New filter & oil again. I know this is going to take numerous times to get the mud fluid color out. Is there a way to short cut this. I know the torque converter is loaded with this brown oil.

If you've not gotten it cleaned out part of me would suggest a power flush but then part of me says that might do (more?) harm. if its driving/shifting fine I'd probably check the radiator/cooler and flush that separately. You can buy aerosol cooler flush at most parts outlets. They'll usually come with a hose fitting to connect to your lines or cooler fitting.

Lot of that stuff is in the convertor and cooler as mentioned, might take 3 changes to get most of it out, but something is going in the trans to cause that.

Thanks for all the replies. I just took this car back from my two sons because they kept complaining that their friends have newer cars. Took it back and said " go buy whatever you want and can afford. The car sat for a couple years before I started to correct things so I have no Idea what was or wasn't done to the car when they had it. Just before I started to restore the car both boys asked what I was going to do with the Chevelle. I said you are not getting it back. They finally realized what they gave up.
