I`m going to replace the home made (red) carpet in my car (4 door hard top) with carpet made by ACC.
At the moment i`m thinking fawn sandalwood.

Car has fawn interior. Honduras maroon outside.
Is there a way to determine the origional color for carpet used with fawn?

Thanks in advance.

There is only one color carpet for a fawn interior - its a fawn or tan carpet and the carpet in 62 was tuxedo carpet (or salt and pepper as its sometimes called) Your fawn interior would have had black loops mixed with the fawn or tan color carpet.

ACC sells the correct tuxedo carpet but they and other carpet companies also sell carpet non tuxedo carpet that is all one color.
"All" 61 to 64 carpet was loop carpet (No cut pile).Only black carpet, with a black 62 interior did not have tuxedo carpet.

If your car has fawn seats and door panels it came from the factory with fawn tuxedo carpet.

Tuxedo carpet costs about $ 40 to $ 50 more than non tuxedo carpet. All the carpet for 61 to 64 come molded to fit the floor pans in the car. The molded front carpet fits over the molded rear carpet under the front seat.

"Final note" - the seat brackets are NOT bolted on top of the carpet. The factory cut slits in the carpet and folded the carpet around the seat brackets (for bench seat cars and for SS cars)

If you are going to order the ACC carpet, Rock Auto has the best price, and if you Google "discount coupon for Rock Auto", you can usually find a 5% discount coupon.

Paul, do you have pics or a diagram on how to cut the slits in the carpet for the seat brackets?

See this post I made on the carpet installation and "pictures of original 62 SS carpet" -posted by Verne - as the factory cut it for bucket seats car(62 SS pictured). The large section of floor under the buckets I do not remove on new carpet I just fold it under the seat. Sometimes the rear carpet is wide enough to reach all the way to the front edge of buckets or bench seats -since its under the front carpet cut it off as needed.

The consoles on 63 SS and 64 SS makes it more difficult than a 62 SS 4 speed console (in Verne's 62 SS picture)....

https://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?t...

The make the following corrections and additions to my installation comments on the attached post... is that the rear carpet should go in first (not the front).

Plus there are no actual measurements- the key is using the existing seat brackets, floor shape, SS console brackets, rear seat brackets, etc and "make sure the carpet is centered on the hump and overlaps the sill plate area equally"........ Start in the center hump and work to the doors for cutting -"only cut once be careful to place the molded carpet correctly fit the floor......the carpet will move....
make sure the front carpet stays under the firewall pad..glue center hump only (do not glue carpet by doors...glue with 3M spray glue.

use a soldering gun for the gas pedal studs, seat belt holes after marking the correct holes. Do seat belt holes and gas pedal studs last just after cutting along the kick panels (fun area to cut all the excess carpet and fit it under the cardboard kick panels.)
"The very last item '.... is the sill plates "do not cut carpet" for the sill plates by door jambs and kick panels until everything else is done.......Factory sill plates floors are pre-drilled for the sill plate screws..

You need very sharp scissors to cut the carpet. and utility knife to cut slots mark holes needed and a very small Philips screwdriver to punch holes in carpet to find factory drilled holes in the floor pan (example 62 SS console, and factory seat belt holes)...

I am doing a 64 SS Impala new carpet right now. Much harder with a 64 SS long console and all its mounting brackets. 63 SS would be similar.

If you can use an original carpet as a template that is golden. I would just follow that original carpet you know its correct.

The new carpet is going to wider than the existing sill area so you are going to have to trim it some. I put notches were the screws are for sill plates (the screws can pull loops out of carpet so you need round holes for each screw or notches like I did - just enough to clear the screws. I use a Harbor Freight scissors (very sharp scissors needed... to trim carpet)

Sill plates go on last for carpet install after 2 kick panels, center hump fitting, fitting carpet under firewall pad, shift plates on hump

Alright sounds good! What did you make the notches with, an exacto knife?

Also, why is it necessary to solder the gas pedal studs? How will I remove the gas pedal studs to pull up the old carpet ?

A knife or even razors will not work on looped carpet.

Use this very sharp scissors..... to cut notches for the sill plates... and to trim the carpet....

https://www.harborfreight.com/multipurpose-scissor...

You are "not removing the gas pedal studs", they are screwed to the floor pan with a plate on the bottom of the floor.
You have to cut holes in the carpet for the 2 gas pedal studs so the studs fit on the holes in the rubber gas pedal.

Its very hard to cut small holes (for gas pedal studs in the middle of the carpet).
What I am suggesting is to melt the carpet around the gas pedal studs with a soldering gun like this -I use this one on my carpet to melt small holes in the carpet after marking the location of the existing gas pedal studs in the new carpet.

Ahhhh gotcha, smart. So just hold the round tip of the soldering gun on the carpet where the studs are , and it won't burn the carpet up or anything? I'm assuming it wouldn't actually catch fire .

Cut a small slit first on each gas pedal stud.
Have some water handy, the carpet will smoke.

Not much needs to be melted - just so studs are exposed to hold gas pedal without carpet interference .
