I was wondering if someone could tell me how to reset the ABS system.

For the past few months, my ABS light has been on and the ABS system has been shut off. My pads were getting thin and unevenly worn (I believe the previous owner replaced one side without replacing the other one), and I had a hub assembly that was going out. So, I'm pretty sure something related to that set an error code in the ABS system to turn on the light and shut down ABS. I've now replaced both hub assemblies (and therefore the wheel speed sensors), replaced all the pads, and both of the rotors. The light comes on automatically when the engine turns on and doesn't go off, so I believe it has stored the error code until it can be reset.

If there's still a problem, it should detect it after the reset. How do I reset the system so that it will turn back on and run diagnostics again (without special equpiment)?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, this is on a 1999 S10 Blazer 4x4.

You can find ABS code information here: http://www.wellsve.com/tc_abs_disclaimer.html
ABS codes can not be cleared unless you use a scanner. My factory manual states the ABS system does two test. One as soon you turn the key. The other when the vehicle is moving. If either fail, the ABS light comes. You have a code that has not cleared. You may need to have it scanned. Once you know the code, you can proceed to fix the problem.

Does the ABS system require its own scanner, or does it interface with the OBDII port the same as the check engine light?

ABS is seperate from ODBII. ODBII can read some brake codes but not ABS. Actron has recently come to market with an ABS scanner. Parts stores however will not scan ABS code. The same port is used to read ABS codes. There are test available using an OHM reader. You can test sensors and signal inputs. Sensor test are available at www.autozone.com. Find the part, then go the maintenance section for tests. I think now you have to register to see the maintenance section.
