Hi. I have a 2004 Malibu Classic, and the turn signal clicking sound keeps clicking after the signals have cancelled. Could it be the turn signal switch going bad?

When does it go off, when the ignition switch is turned off? Could be the flasher.

Yes, it stops when the ignition is turned off. It starts clicking whenever the engine is on, and then also seems to slow down in pace as I brake and stop, keeps clicking, then returns to a constant "click click..." as the engine gets back up to speed.

I do a lot of used car work and had that same problem once. Turned out to be a bad hazard light switch.

Thank you, DEI8FAN and algopher. I will check into a replacement hazard light switch. Are those easy to replace myself?

I replaced the hazard light switch, but the clicking noise is still there. Could it be the direction signal stalk assembly unit on the steering wheel that needs replaced?

I found this on another site.

The noise you hear is indeed the flasher clicking. It is the hazard flasher which also controls the turn signal flasher. This is caused by worn contacts in the turn signal switch in the steering column. These are very easy to change. THe top cover of the steering column pops off and then there is one screw and 3 connectors. The only thing to watch for is the horn contact pin that needs to be pushed in to slip behind the horn contact.

Also I found out if you take the switch apart and clean the contacts it will stop.

Thank you, DEI8FAN. I will clean the contacts first to see if that works, so I can possibly avoid (for now) paying around $100 for a replacement.

Before I tackle this job, should I disconnect the airbag somehow? I'm nervous about having my face so close to the steering wheel in order to see and locate what I need to mess with in order to remove the turn signal switch off the column.

I am having a issue with the driver front blinker. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't the flasher gets faster like the bulb is out.

Any ideas?

The turn signal stalk is probably going. If you pull it slightly foward towards you it probably will work.
