I am attempting to finish my transmission job, I'm excited because I am done, and can't get the darn cable synced up. Happy I am almost done but freaking pissed. Anyways I tried following the directions, but the dang thing won’t seem to sync. If anyone has some step by step instructions an idiot could follow this would really help.

96 Chevy K1500 ext cab z71 short bed, with a 4L60E.

Transmission cable, goes from your shifter to your tranny. I am not able to get it synced up, another words park is park, neutral is neutral etc...

Ah, OK. Shifter cable.

The adjustment is down at the transmission end. There's a little clip that goes in that holds the assembly together; you'll see it has a row of teeth. You're supposed to be able to squeeze the retainer and adjust the cable, but I'll be honest with you, my one or two attempts at this didn't work out too well. Once the cable is old, those plastic parts get pretty brittle.

I can adjust it, however I am unable to sync it up. I thought u started in neutral at both sides and then tighten. But when I run the gears through they are off.

I would go for adjusting in park, not neutral. The column has an upper limit of how far it will let the shifter travel, which should also be the limit of the travel on the cable toward the stud it snaps on at the transmission.

I adjusted in park, and I can get all the gears, however it does not always want to go back into park. I think it may be time for a new cable, but not sure how to tell.
