Hi all, does anybody make heavy duty 17 spline replacement axles for any 55-64 cars? Thanks, John.

Yes, but you will need to check with the rearend/axle vendors to have them made. These days, they are no longer a high demand item.
Also, in the 55-64 range of axles, there are THREE distinct pairs of axles:
55-56 (to include 56 Vette)
57-58 (to include 57-62 Vette)

And ACTUALLY, there was a 4th pair----57 pass car/57 Vette with FACTORY posi (those axles were 1/8in shorter than the regular 57 axles). The 58s used the SAME axle as the regular 57 without posi.

I was wondering about axles also and found the site Charlie was trying to link to.

Charlies link is working now.

For a while, I had a 63 Nova Wagon Sleeper. Had my 333 CID from a 327/built Powerglide and 4500 RPM stall converter, AND, the STOCK 63 Nova/Chevy II rear end housing. I had Dutchman make up a set of axles to go with the "full size" passenger car 3rd member/Positraction with 4.88's. They even kept the 4-bolt hubs for me. Those Nova/Chevy II 4 bolt brakes are extremely marginal!!! But, it sure surprised a lot of the 5.0 Mustang guys. Sold the rolling chassis/body to a friend who promptly wrecked it beyond repair. He even let the Dutchman axles go with the car to a hulk hauler. I wanted to send him to the hulk hauler when I heard that. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Great resource. Thanks for posting. Wish t hat I had seen this before putting new bearings on my axles-which are showing some damage at the splines.
