I want to "complete" my trunk area with the jack and spare tire -
though I would not use it on my bumper.
Danchuk sells restored 57 jacks for $350.
What alternatives would you folks suggest?
(keeping with original style jacks)
Late 50's early 60's jack work? 100% originality not that important.
Thnx
Mike

I was driving by a place out here and the sons were cleaning out the garage and throwing out a pile of jacks, one had 71 Chevelle stamped on the head, so I took all the jacks and a pair of SS Cragar Wheels. If you look around you may luck in, especially since you do not want a correct replacement. Try flea markets etc. Merry Christmas, Henry.

Mike,
There is no way I would ever use the bumper to jack up these classics!
Have you ever tried it? When these cars were good used cars the bumpers would flex dramatically.
If you are looking for a good jack that won't take up a ton of room try a Flat Jack by TriC engineering. Easy to use and compact.

I'm not going to use it to jack the car up -
never have - never will.
I just want to finish off the trunk.
Thanks for the replies.
Happy Holidays everyone.

If originality is not that important than why do you want an original style jack? Sounds like originality IS important to you. Or at least the appearance that it is. One problem with a non-original, original style jack is that it won't look like an original
57 jacks are easily recognized. I would either buy the original or don't bother.

Most new cars are jacked up under the rocker panel. A few of years ago, I was going down the interstate. On the other side, I saw a nice late 60s/early 70s Chevelle with a flat tire. The two young men had the bumper jack out of the trunk and had it under the rocker panel trying to jack up the car. I planned to turn around and tell them of their error before they did any damage. But, it was a long way to the next exit. I assumed they had figured it out or had already done damage before I could get back. I hope they figured it out.

A jack from a lot of the 1960s/70s car will work on a '57. I carried one for a '70 Impala for many years in the trunk of my first car. It's the type with clip on hook.

I found an original '57 jack at a swap meet like 2 years ago. The seller said it was a good jack and he'd take $10 for it. So I paid him, grabbed the jack, walked slowly back to my windowed Delivery as not to draw attention to myself, and thought "COOL!"
