Sounds like a really silly question, but it would help me an awful lot to know...Chevy small block distributor hold dowm bolt size. [I tried to post this in the performance forum but it won't allow me to post there for some reason]

What I have is a 305 from probably a mid 80's truck and the original dist hold down bolt seemed loose. My "found" bolt just won't clamp down. I'm hoping to not have to remove the distributor and drill and tap the hole. I'm assuming that the hole threads would be the same for all small blocks. I just thought if anyone happens to have thiers out or had it replaced recently enough to remember...

That reminds me. I need to change the 350 on my signiture to 305... I'm ok with that now.

I believe it is 9/16" for both big block and small block. I recently looked for a distributor wrench and found that they are a little tricky to come by. I originally wanted a type that had a 1/2" on one end and a 9/16" on the other.

What I finally found was a type that has two shafts that interchange to the 3/8" ratchet drive head. This was made by a long standing company called Great Neck and pruchased at Auto Zone for 7-8 Dollars.

Sears sells a type that is "one size only" and you pick either 9/16" or 1/2". These are about 20 Dollars each!!!

Try this link to see the type I bought....

The actual bolt itself is 3/8"x16 coarse thread.I'm pretty sure it's 1" long. This will take a 9/16" wrench.
"You gonna leave it like that?

Thanks very much. I'll give that a try. I'm sure you'll be hearing back from me if I have to repair the hole - cause
I'll probably need to vent a little.
